When I first heard about the Youth Olympic Game to be held in Singapore, I thought I was out of touch because I had never heard of this event before. I didn't really buy it. Me, out of touch with the world events? Nah...touch wood. As it turned out, the reason I heard about it the first time is becuase this is the very 1st Summer Youth Olympic Game. The official tagline "Blazing the Trail" says it well.


Singapore is quite busy this year (or any other year for that matter) with other firsts. It's also blazing the money trail when it opened its first casino (actually two. Good things come in pair). Marina Bay Sands was only opened last couple of months, and I haven't yet visited it. I probably am waiting for somebody to visit me in Singapore and use it as a subterfuge to see the casino. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge, James and Mary.


The blue haired sheila on the right is Merly - obvious from the name that it's inspired by the symbol of Singapore's Merlion. And the red haired fella on the left is Lyo, again obvious from the name that's derived from Leo, the lion constellaion. Singapore in Malay is "Singa Pura" means
